# Source Handling

## Current Rules

- Preserve every received Markdown source as an individually addressable, byte-stable file under `docs/source-files/`.
- Treat received archive containers as provenance metadata only; never ship nested source archives in the flat deployment.
- Current inventory: **355 source files**, **6 collections**, **229 canonical reports**, and **0 nested archives**.
- Store every new repository-authored report under `docs/long-term-memory/reports/`; do not turn immutable source files into competing canonical report bodies.
- Every source record carries original name, bytes, SHA-256, collection, canonical report mapping, and useful section links.
- Preservation does not make every statement a product claim. Current-status claims require review evidence, limitations, and appropriate freshness checks.

## Latest Collection Rule

Preserve every supplied member as an individual file. Use SHA-256 to deduplicate canonical bodies without deleting duplicate evidence. Treat archive/container names as provenance only. Never ship the nested archive. Keep source bodies immutable and put reviewed synthesis in canonical durable reports.
